What’s New In TIA Portal V17 Update 7
TIA Portal V17 update 8 includes cumulative updates and contains all previous updates. You can refer to all changes in TIA V17 Update 1 – TIA V17 Update 6 in the previous post.
On TIA Portal V17 update 7, we have some changes
- Stability when working with the TIA Portal V17 Update 7 has been improved, partly based on the feedback from returned crash reports.
- CA certificates of projects from TIA Portal <V17 are not accepted when connecting from/to S7-1500 CPUs
- Improvements in WinCC Unified – TIA V17 Upd7
- Tag: The display of cross-references has been improved. The references are displayed correctly in the cross-reference list, regardless of whether a tag is used directly or in a user data type.
- SVG graphics are displayed correctly in the project after the migration from V17 to V18
- TIA Portal Openness: The automatic creation of screen objects with the Excel importer has been improved. The “Authorization” object property is imported and assigned correctly.
- The specification on the designation of interface tags was modified. Names that start with an underscore are not permitted any more.
What’s New In TIA Portal V17 Update 8
TIA Portal V17 Update 8 contains the following improvements and changes:
- Stability when working with the TIA Portal V17 upd8 has been improved, partly based on the feedback from returned crash reports.
- Structural changes when editing and enabling library types on Step 7
- When structural changes are made to library types and you undo them manually (not by an undo command), dependent types are set to the “Processing” state during the enable.
- If you continue without editing the dependent types, the following error message is output when you compile the dependent blocks: “This interface contains changes that are not compatible with the block/type used. Please edit this block.
- Improvements in WinCC – TIA V17 Update 8
- Working with recipes has improved. The maximum number of 1,000,000 recipe elements can now be used without error.
- Acquisition mode “On change” now works properly. The logging tags are only entered when a change is detected and not cyclically.
- The creation of expressions using the buttons has been improved.
- On TIA Portal V17 update 8, secure HMI communication for SIMATIC Panel PCs ITP1000 and FHD ITP1000 now works correctly.

TIA Portal v17 Upd 8 Installation
TIA V17 Update 8 is valid for the following products:
- STEP 7 Basic V17 / STEP 7 Professional V17
- WinCC Basic V17 / WinCC Comfort V17 / WinCC Advanced V17 / WinCC Professional V17 / WinCC Unified V17
- TIA Portal Openness V17
Therefore, before installing TIA Portal 17 Update 8, you need to download and install TIA V17 first.
Installation notes:
- If you modify your system after installing Update 8 for TIA V17, you will have to perform the update again.
- The TIA Portal V17 update 8 can only be installed if one of the products mentioned above is already installed.
- After installing the update for WinCC, also install the appropriate update for the HMI operator panels (HMI panel image)
- After each installation of STEP 7 V17 or WinCC V17, the latest update needs to be installed.
