Make S7 200 Cable for PLC Programming – Preparing
To make a programming cable for PLC S7-200 we use:
- USB to RS485 converter: 01 pc. Another application of the device here.

- COM DB9 Male: 01 pc.
- Signal cable with minimum 02 wires inside.
- Siemens S7-200 PLC CPU 224 (for a test s7 200 cable above)
- Software: Step 7 Micro/WIN V4.0 SP9 on Windows 10 x64.
Steps to make PLC S7-200 Programming cable
Step 1: S7-200 cable diagram
- We make the S7 200 cable following the diagram below
- We recommend using a cable with a length shorter than 1000 mm.
Step 2: Install the driver for S7 200 cable
- Connect the cable above with PLC and PC. Turn on the power for PLC.
- Install the driver for the USB to the RS485 converter. In normal it used the CH34x chipset. Download the driver here. After installing the driver, we can check again by accessing the “Device Manager” of Windows.
Step 3: Test the S7-200 programming cable
- Open Step 7 MicroWIN 4.0 SP9 on Windows 10 64bits.
- Set PG/PC interface to “PC/PPI cable” and select the COM port of the S7 200 cable (which we checked in “Device Manager”).
- Click on “Communication” and search for the S7-200 CPU.
- Now, you can download and upload the program for the S7-200 PLC as normal.
