Preparing To Backup HMI Smart Line IE V4 Program
To backup (and restore) the Siemens HMI Smart Line IE V4 Program through the Ethernet port, we use the hardware and software as below:
- Hardware: Siemens Smart 700 IE V4 – 6AV6648-0DC11-3AX0. On the 365evn shop, you can find it here. You can apply the way to Smart 1000 IE V4 and other versions (Smart Line and Smart Line V3 and Smart Line V5)
- Software: WinCC Flexible SMART V5 English Version (Patch) on Windows 11 x64. However, you can download and use the original version (Chinese language) with the same functions and menu locations.

How To Backup HMI Smart Line IE V4 Program
Follow the steps to create a backup of the program HMI Smart Line IE V4:
- Connect the HMI to a PC or, laptop via the Ethernet cable. Turn on the power and go to “Transfer” mode on HMI.
- Open the software “WinCC Flexible SMART V5 English“. Then click on the menu: “Project” -> “HMI device maintenance…”
- Then, select the interface (Your network card) and click “Start scan” to find your HMI. We have the device information: Name; Type; FW version; IP address; MAC address; Mask…
- Go to “Control Panel” -> “Network and Sharing Center” on your PC and set the network parameters: IP address (In a group network with HMI) and Mask (Same on HMI)
- Return to the software and select your HMI. Click “Test” to verify the connection.
- When the connection is good, click “Backup” and select “Type of backup” (Complete backup), select the folder and enter the file name of the backup.
- Finally, click “Start backup” and wait for the process to complete.
Restore Smart Line IE V4 HMI Program
Follow the steps to restore the program HMI Smart Line IE V4:
- Firstly, refer to the steps above to make the connection from HMI to PC.
- When the connection is good, click “Restore“, then select the folder and open the backup file. You can click “File information” to see more details.
- Finally, click “Start backup” and wait for the process to complete.
